Forests of Endelaan

Darkness enveloped the thick forests of Endelaan as it did every night.  Despite the massive build-up of commerce centered around the main and only city on the planet, much of the ancient world remained untamed, pure.  It was in these very woods that the man referred to as King, largely out of his relationship to the true ruler of the planet only, had been spending an ever-increasing amount of time.  It was not uncommon for Diomedes to drift off into the dense foliage for hours at a time.  Hours quickly turned to days and recently days had turned to weeks.  In the back of his mind, the young King was constantly aware of his responsibilities elsewhere.  His two very young children that required his love, affection, above all - his protection and guidance.

So the question remained.  Why separate himself from a beautiful mate, beautiful children, and a fairly easy-going lifestyle?  Diomedes had more than paid his dues when it came to training and working to better himself.  Likewise, he'd done a great deal of damage, permitted himself to be so weak as to be killed, resurrected, and then turned into a Jedi.  The visage he'd maintained for so long was indicative of this, his failures.  He could not allow such a reality to go on.  So he'd pleaded for help from the one person he so detested the most in recent memory.  The maternal progenitor of his bloodline.  Boadicea had not been...easy to convince, not in the slightest.  Diomedes had suffered greatly for his requests, and he'd endured enough verbal chiding to go a lifetime.  In the end, it had been his stalwart resolve and willingness to accept more of her teachings that resulted in what had happened only a handful of days ago.

For the first time since before Maximus and Boadicea being vanquished from their corporeal forms, Diomedes truly felt like...well...a version of himself.  He would never again be the misguided young teenager that had been forced down the path of becoming a Sith.  Now, he embraced his role and power as an innate, integral part of himself.

Approaching the large river that cut through the forest and, ultimately, lead towards the Forbidden Temple in one direction, the Warrior-King came to a stop.  Opening himself fully to the Force, he allowed his presence to expand outward with considerable force.  Never again would he hide - never again would he allow the reality of life in this galaxy force him to do anything he did not so desire.  Xsayarsa...  Come to me, my old friend.

A strong gust of win immediately blew through the forest and any animals in the King's location immediately fled.  Moments later, the heavy beating of wings could be heard just as a large figure began to materialize through the canopy of the forest.  You are...changed, young friend.

Diomedes turned to cast his silver-green gaze in the direction of the large blue-maned white Pegasus that landed before him.  "More on the inside than the exterior, and I assure you it is the last time.  Now then..."  Without warning or reason, Diomedes mounted the Pegasus' back.  "Take us home."

It was merely a matter of minutes before a large storm gathered in the skies over the forests of Endelaan.  The dark, rolling clouds appeared to be moving at a clearly unnatural rate towards the Forbidden Temple, strands of purple-white sheet lightning illuminating the ground below without harmfully striking.  As it reached the edge of the forest, the storm slowed, settling to a stop directly over the Temple.  From within the storm itself, Xsayarsa's massive form emerged and landed in the soft grass just outside the Temple.

In the next moment, the Warrior-King of Endelaan dismounted wearing the armor his mate had fashioned for him and his hand resting on the leather hilt of his dark-blue Sword.  Silver-green eyes surveyed the horizon as his long, dark hair blew gently in the wind.  Inhaling deeply, Diomedes' expression was flat, neutral.  Several of the guards outside looked on with curiosity for a moment until recognition set in, and they bowed briefly in deference.  A courtesy they only showed when they felt that, perhaps, the King was not in the best of moods.  A courtesy that Diomedes never required.  No doubt the general strength of his presence and changed demeanor was readily felt by those that served him directly.  And those that knew him better than any other in the galaxy...

The sounds of the storm made their way inside the temple. Servants and slave alike reacted, heads coming up, work paused for the briefest of moments. Even the lowliest among them could sense that the storm was not natural, was not part  of Endelaan's usual cycle.

Only one of them stood out. Nessarose deWinter, sprawled on the bed she and Diomedes shared, her chest heaving up and down with the slow and steady rhythm of one who was deeply asleep.

It was only a few hours ago that she'd returned to Endelaan, bearing Brayden and Scheherezade with her. Another quick trip around the Galaxy, dragging the two along with her, in between feeding sessions, playing sessions, political sessions with others, and always running from place to place, there had been too little time to properly rest. Meditation could only take one so far over the long term; a body that still ran on other things beyond the Force needed to sometimes sleep and dream.

In her  dreams she was almost always happy, evident by the tiny smile on her face as she turned onto her side, her hands greedily hugging a pillow that would've otherwise had been Dio himself, and still had the tiniest of touches of his smell.

The previous few months had not gone unnoticed by her. But even Nessarose had eventually learned that she could not chase Diomedes when he retreated only into himself, and had let it be, busying herself on the twins and a million other projects. Her nose rubbed against the pillow and the smile seemed to etch slightly deeper onto her face as sweet oblivion resumed its hold on her.

In the great crib, a mere few feet away, the twins threw little toys at each other, pausing occasionally only to giggle.

Silence surrounded the Warrior as he departed the company of his long-time friend and mentor.  As he swept past various servants, guards, and other individuals going about their routine evening duties, Diomedes took the time to afford each of them a glance and a subtle nod of appreciation.  Regardless of his own personal demons, struggles, and inconsistencies, he was forever thankful for those that pledged their livelihood and that of their family to the betterment of Endelaan - to a better way of life.  Whether or not others chose to admit it, Diomedes knew that the Potestatem struggled with identity amongst the greater galaxy.  A very large part of that was their recluse nature.  However, the greatest of Empires may have started in secret, but some secrets can only be kept so long.  Eventually, their enemies would come here to Endelaan, seeking to inflict maximum damage.  The Warrior-King had the utmost confidence in the martial abilities of their people, but those could be rendered hopelessly pathetic with a but a word for the right people.  In that regard - it fell to Nessarose, himself, and a handful of others to be the vanguards of the Potestatem's peace and security.

Turning down a corridor that lead towards the wing of the Temple containing the Royal Residence, Diomedes exhaled softly as his presence brushed against three particular lifeforms.  First, Diomedes could feel the continuous warmth of his loving mate, never waivering even in the most trying of times.  She was, without a doubt, much better than he deserved.  Beyond that he could sense his two children that should have been sleeping.  It was only a matter of minutes before he slipped silently into the large room and immediately made his way towards the massive crib.  Diomedes motioned for the children to remain silent, but they were children and not much one for caring what the adults wanted more often than not.  The sounds of their unintelligible baby noises and giggles steadily rose until it would be almost impossible to sleep through.  Reaching down into the crib, he scooped both infants into his arms and retired to a large chair.  Apparently satisfied, both Brayden and Scheherezade merely clung to his arms and looked up at him.

Smiling in return was all he could do.

The sounds of her children giggling had become something she'd grown accostumed to over the last few weeks. Without her own mother to guide her, and considering most of those who made up her entourage were child-less as well, there had been no one to guide her on certain matters, though she had learned well enough on her own that noisy children were good and that only during their silences something sinister might have happened.

She opened her eyes and sat up with a start, her gaze falling immediately on three pairs of eyes that glowed as green as hers. Everything were fine. Her body was already tumbling back into sleep when her brain registered what she'd actually seen, and Nessarose jumped up again.

"Dio?" she asked, her voice just above a whisper. It was him, wasn't it? Looks could easily deceive; how many clones of him existed? How many people who looked so much alike that the only thing outside of the Force that told her it wasn't him was their smell? But this.. Everything...

Stalking forward almost like a panther, Nessarose screamed with joy as she jumped on him, using the Force to hoist both children into the air for a moment while she landed and showered Diomedes, her Diomedes, with a rain of kisses and hugs, rubbing her nose no longer against the pillow, but against his face in between the kisses.

Diomedes glanced up at the sudden motion from the bed.  When Nessarose had started to fall back to sleep, the Warrior smirked, waiting for realization to set in.  As he'd expected, his Sorceress did not disappoint.  What followed all happened fairly rapidly, the giggles of his suddenly levitated children barely registering before Nessarose's warm form had settled firmly into his lap.

Returning his mate's hugs and kisses, Diomedes allowed the embrace to continue for several moments before he gently pulled away, smiling.  "Hello, princess."  The final word rolled slowly off his tongue, very much indicative of their very early interactions.  A brief memory of those times drifted through Diomedes' mind before he turned his eyes upwards.  After a brief smile to his floating children, he settled his gaze back on Nessarose and placed his forehead against her own.  "Sorry for my absences, Nessa.  I needed the time to truly discover myself for the first time."

She had never thought she would hear him say that. Not that phrase, not with that voice. It was as if their earlier years together came back and engulfed her, making her tingle all over. There was more than mere nostalgic reactions though. In every fiber of his being, she could see him, she could sense him. And she knew his words spoke true now, that he was here, that he was 'back'. "I love you," she murmured, and let him talk as her lips continued to spread kisses on his face, the fact she had been so certain would only be seen and touched again in memories alone, and not even the giggles of her children in the air could break her concentration away from him right just there and then.

Eventually though, Nessarose settled, her arms wrapping around Diomedes' shoulders as she snuggled into his form, every curve and bump of her body matching perfectly into his. "And what have you discovered?" she almost purred into him as she rubbed her cheek against his shoulder. Another giggle from above reminded her that there were two other minime's that required taking care of, and gently she brought them back down, nesting them on both of her and Dio, where only now they  began to show symptoms of willingness to go to sleep.

Diomedes attempted to sneak out a return 'I love you', but he found Nessarose enacting other plans for his lips instead.  Once the euphoria of Nessa's initial excitement began to die down, Diomedes exhaled softly with satisfaction, supporting the children balancing in their laps with his free arm.  The question that Nessarose had asked was expected, but it wasn't something that Diomedes felt he could truly put into words.  It was just as much a sense of completeness as it was anything else.

"What it feels like to truly and completely be free."  There had always been something in the past that seemed to keep him from embracing anything even remotely relating to his actual role in life.  Granted, he had attempted to break free before and thought himself successful, only to be drawn back in completely because of some circumstance.  It was never a physical restriction, merely a mental one.  "It's difficult to convey via words."  Falling silent, Diomedes glanced at the twins.  There were other things he wished to discuss, but he did not think now to be the time or place.

Nessarose nodded, remaining quiet. Though their children rested against them, her eyes crawled up until they rested on Dio's face. He didn't have to verbalize it. She understood, even if her own emotional advancement path had been entirely different than his. The tip of her nose rang along his jawline, though there was nothing sexual about her motions. Far from it. The intimacy, the intimacy was great. And although she had carried on and not let it distract her, she  had missed him. And now he was back, and he was entirely there. It would be death to rip that apart, here and now.

But there were things that mattered more than silly little states of life that could be reversed and toyed with until the end of time, and she didn't need the force to feel his wants. Brayden and Scheherezade slowly rose back into the air, moving as though on the backs of feathers until they were in their cribs, not a limb disturbed. If they ever noticed being pulled away from their parents, it never woke them up or make them squeak.

Rising from Diomedes, Nessarose pulled him with her, up from the chair and out of the room, always touching him in one way or another; a clasp of the hands, a bump of the shoulders. "Up or down?" she asked with a smile as she turned to look at him, green into green. It was the turn of the season, and the breeze was wonderful up on the roof of the Forbidden Temple. And down... Were the wonderful caverns, still mostly unexplored, though she know her way through enough of them find underground lakes that proved more privacy than some might consider possible.

Diomedes returned Nessa's smile as she guided him from their large bedroom.  Once they'd arrived in the open-air corridors that connected all of the main sections of the Temple, his smile increased ever so slightly.  Truth be told, they were his favorite feature of all the various ones maintained by the Temple.  Casting his silver-green gaze towards the horizon, the Warrior considered something for a moment before softly responding to his Queen.  "Up."  The sun would be rising soon enough, and Diomedes had seen enough of Endelaan's depths to satisfy him for a bit - regardless of how impressive the caverns beneath the Forbidden Temple certainly were.

Turning back to Nessarose, Diomedes planted a soft kiss upon her forehead.  "And thank you for never giving up on me."  He couldn't really remember if he'd ever thanked her for bringing him back when he'd been...pushed towards a way of life that he never really identified with.  Even if he had, he'd certainly not done it enough.  Nessarose deWinter was the one true constant in his life...ever since that fateful day so many years ago.

Up it was. She purred softly when he kissed her forehead and grinned in a silly manner in response. He'd never actually thanked her like he did now, and on another evening that might have given her pause and send her into endless fretting over what a thank you actually meant.

But not tonight.

Nessa smiled again and poked the tip of Diomedes' nose with her finger before leaning in to properly kiss him, tasting him, him. "I'm never going to give up on you," she whispered just before she let go and took his hand again.

Moments later the two were on the roof, and the air smelled like delicious night time. Around them the foundations of the great capitol lay bare. It would only be a few short months before the buildings were properly built and done. All they had to do was give it a proper name, but that could wait.

Now that they were up on the roof, Nessarose half bounced half walked to a nearby seating bench, her hand never letting go of Diomedes. He'd have to break the touching off on his own if he wanted it to happen sometime in the next century.
