A New Beginning (Open)
« on: 08/12/13 10:38:21 »
Tay slowly made his way through the crowded spaceport, marveling at the rhythmic dance that seemed to be carried out by the thousands of beings working their way to the respective destinations. It challenged his definition of what it was to be 'alive,' as it seemed that the entirety of the crowd moved in an ordered chaos that from the outside would look like a body. The idea of 'corporate' life wasn't foreign to the Zanazi prophet; on the contrary, it was the way in which he lived his life. As a prophet of the Cosmic Balance, he knew that every action in the universe carried with it an opposite response. Something good that happened to one person would denote misfortune in the life of another. Something unlucky in the life of one individual would result in the positive luck of another. Such was the way of the universe. Everything had to be balanced.

An announcement over the holo brought Tay out of his reverie, announcing the imminent departure of the Starliner that he would be occupying on his journey. He had no idea what his journey would hold; he simply knew that he had been called by the Balance to go. Perhaps his self-imposed exile would even result in the homecoming of another. He would never know, of course, but he would ask the Balance that it be so.

Pressing through the ever tightening crowd, Tay clutched his shoulder bag tightly and kept a steady gait, trying to keep his flowing black robes from being stepped on. When he reached the desk, he produced his Ident card for verification. The spaceport's officer scanned the card, and gave him instructions on how to reach the cabin that he had rented for his voyage to Coruscant. The voyage would take a full week, and he was eager to get under way. Unfortunately, there was not a high availability of travel off of Bakura unless you knew someone or wanted to go outside the law. The result was that Tay had to purchase a ticket on one of the massive Starliners, an expensive gesture to be sure. Tay had purchased the cheapest ticket that the Starliner had available, hoping his travels would not result in the misfortune of another.

The Starliner was massive, containing multiple restaurants, cantinas, entertainment zones, casinos, fitness centers, and many other amenities. Making his way through the corridors, Tay stepped into the cabin that he had been assigned. It was a four bunk cabin, with two recessed sleeping holes on either side of the room. Each of the four beds contained artificial lights inside, as well as transparent shields that came down and could be clouded to obstruct the views of prying eyes. At the far end of the room was a door, flanked by two desks. The door led to a refresher unit with the same type of door that covered the bunks, with controls inside the refresher that would cloud the door so that no one could see inside when it was occupied.

Tay chose the right-most bottom bunk, and set his bag down. He could feel his stomach aching, knowing that he hadn't yet eaten today. Being a Zanazi prophet, he only ate one meal per day. He did this knowing that the affluent beings of the galaxy would indulge in three or more meals each day, and that due to their greed others in the universe would go hungry. Tay refused to be the source of another's suffering, and therefore would eat only one meal a day, hoping that perhaps his suffering would allow another to experience good fortune.

Reaching into his bag, Tay removed his prayer mat and his worn copy of the Fulcrum. Carefully, he laid out his prayer mat next to his bunk and then placed the book on top of it. Pulling his hood over his head, he gently prostrated himself on the floor. Having seen the affluence of the Starliner he felt compelled to beg the Balance not to repay the indulgence of these heathens on the less fortunate. Perhaps the Balance would see fit to return the affluence of this ship on those who built it and now enjoyed it, rather than the downtrodden? Balance be merciful, he begged.

It was a shiny bright day indeed when Morgaine deWinter was dressed in something other than an old pair of baggy jeans and an oversized sweatshirt. The fiery redhead's body was still covered, mind you. It was just that it was now covered in a new pair of jeans that were even wider than before, and a dark shirt that gave absolutely no hint of the malnourished feminine body beneath it. And on top of that, of course, came the hugeass trench coat.

One eye green and one eye golden binked into the spaceport as she shook her head. She knew she was supposed  to meet her contact dude here; even with her recent grand idea about picking poop up around the 'verse  and using it in barren parts of the 'verse to make them fertile (and she was sure she was sitting and shitting on a gold mine), it was still going to take some time before her gold mine was going to start farting her gold. In the meantime, she still needed her spice.

At first, the deWinter Lioness had even been tempted to see if she could make anything from the feces she'd gathered. But short of things that only pretended to be smokable, there was absolutely nothing there that she could use, and Spira's spice traders had become too rare for her to get her quick fix.

So here she was now, doing her utter best to blend in, because Force Users man, those pricks were everywhere. It was as though the great Force Using ape mother and the great Force Using ape father made sure that anyone and anything that could wield the Force would not only wield it but use it at over nine thousand level too, regardless of their will. Was she one of them? Damn right. Was she going to let the Force control her? Fuck no. She was going to get her lovely death sticks, and then she was going to smoke them until she passed out.

And such it was that Morgie entered the room in which our lovely Tay currently was, but she held none of that religious respect thing. "Where's Patrick?" she asked as she poked the man with the tip of her sneaker, her hands already working to bring out a regular cigarette out and lighting it. Her voice sounded like she'd had at least a hundred cigarettes in the past hour alone. And her smell kinda matched it too.

Seldom do people think about the myriad noises of Starliners until they are aboard one. The behemoths growl, purr, and snarl the likes of any beast in the galaxy, even though they're not alive. Still, the sound of the door to the cabin opening was easily discernible from any other noise that the massive ship was making. Tay recognized the sound, but made no movement. It wasn't his concern. He wasn't attempting to be rude, he was simply focused and unashamed. The boot currently toeing his side, however, made him aware of the fact that the newcomer didn't intend to leave him alone in response. It was no matter.

He was becoming more used to the lack of respect for the Way of the Cosmic Balance, as it had fallen out of place as the majority religion held on Bakura. At one point in its history, the Zanazi order were the most respected of all people on the planet - but no longer. Now they were an obscure group who most felt were out of touch with modern thinking, and many felt were simply insane. He cared little for their opinions, however.

Slowly, he rose to a sitting position with his knees on the floor while sitting back on his heals, and pulled the hood down from over his head; the stench of the cigarette already filling the room. Would she be a fellow passenger on this voyage? There was always the possibility that he wouldn't have this room by himself. And what of Patrick? An associate or lover of the girl? Tay neither knew nor cared. Still, there was a social responsibility to respond to someone when they questioned you and poked you with their feet, wasn't there?

"I'm not familiar with Patrick, and so far you and I are the only ones to have stopped by this cabin," he said with a friendly smile, "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

One eye green and one eye gold blinked. No Patrick? Morgie's face froze as she considered the matter. Her own ship was in a magical kingdom far away in the Unknown Regions, which meant that she relied on public transportation. Sure, she had a lightsaber to make most things quicker, but still...

"Are you sure, douche?" she asked, her red eyebrows doing their utter best to meet in the center of her forehead. There was no way he didn't know who Patrick was. Everybody knew Patrick. Even Patrick knew Patrick! The last of the pills she'd consumed some hours ago were still flowing their way up and down her blood stream, but she knew there wasn't much time before she dried up. "Bah, hambug."

Whatever.

"Fine," she snorted with an eye roll, not even pausing to check whether he answered or not, "just give me whatever you want. Four, five hours. I'll find him myself."

In many ways, Tay was naive to the ways of the galaxy. He had lived nearly his entire life on Bakura - minus some space travel time that he would rather block out of his past - and the last several years in what accounted basically to a monastery. This made the young girl's entire demeanor somewhat of a mystery to him. What was not a mystery to him, however, was the dilated pupils and utterly confused persona that accompanied the girl's demeanor. She was higher than a Beldon. This fact made him quite confident that whatever it was she expected him to give her, he didn't have it.

"Unfortunately my personal possessions are meager, and I'm afraid I don't have anything that would interest you," he said rising from his prayer mat. Reaching into his bag, he pulled out a small device and walked into the refresher unit to fill it with water. "If I could interest you in some tea, however, that I can offer."

"Tea?!" Morgaine almost screamed. No. Nah uh. She rememebred what happened last time someone offered 'tea'. It was actually a really funny story that included a bantha and a pink thong, and she was kinda sure it also included flamboyant pirates that tried to outsing an outsmoke her and then kill her. Okay, maybe it wasn't entirely funny. Or it was. She didn't know. She couldn't know; most of that evening was just blurred memories anyway.

Still, that did not keep her from stomping after him into the refresher area. Maybe there was something stashed in there?

She opened her mouth to say something, but her mouth quickly shut itself when blaster shots were heard from the hallway, and before she could blink her mismatched eyes, the door (which she was kinda sure had been unlocked anyway) burst open.

"BOMB!!!" she shrieked at the top of her ash darkened lungs, and tried to duck under the sink, hitting her head on the man's knee in the process.

For a moment, Maybe stood there, panting, hands on her knees, holding clutched in her hands what appeared to be a blaster and a cartridge. Her hair was slightly matted, and she seemed exhausted, although the run through the ship had only been a short one. Exercise. One of these days she'd start doing exercise. She was dressed somewhat better than Morgaine, in a leather jacket, a black vest top and tight pants, along with knee high stiletto boots. She smelled somewhat better too, if cheap perfume was considered 'better' than cigarettes. She did however only have a chance to stare at the shrieking confused woman who was accusing her of being a bomb for a split second, before another blaster shot ran out and she span around and slammed the door behind her, locking it, although she knew that wouldn't last for long.

"Quick! Does one of you know how to reload this thing?" She asked, dropping the blaster and spare cartridge on the table. She clearly had on long purple fake nails, which apparently she found hindered her ability to reload the blaster somewhat. Or, at least that's what she'd claim. The truth was, she'd never actually had to reload it before and had no idea how.

"HEY! She went in there!" Came a voice from outside, and she could hear people pounding on the door. She attempted a nervous laugh.
"Uh, faster would be better?" She said hopefully.

BOMB!
No, wait.
There was no bomb.

Morgaine burped under the sink and opened her golden eye, staring at the stupid woman who a moment ago had been the bomb, and spit. Bugger that. What the fuck was going on?

Rising up, she grabbed the woman's blaster with a bony hand and opened her green eye too, staring intently.

"Shut up, whore," she grumbled as she inspected the blaster for a few more moments.

With a sigh, Morgie removed her lightsaber from the pocket of her jeans, and introduced tip to nozzle. "Say my name say my name," she sang as she made kissing motions for the two, "when no one is around you, say baby I love you," and her thumb hit the lightsaber's button.

The deep red beam greeted the blaster.

Maybe folded her arms and gave Morgaine an angry look.
"Hey! Who are you calling a-" Was as far as she got before the lightsaber ignited and Maybe's eyes went wide, causing her to take several steps back against the door. For a moment, she was horrified. A Jedi, or a Sith, or something!? What was it with Maybe and ending up out of her depth!? But then she realised what was happening, and she lunged forwards, too late to save her blaster. "NO!" She screamed.

"What did you do that for!?" She asked, running a hand through her hair. "Do you have any idea how long I had to save up for that!?" She complained, as the pounding on the door increased. "At least... use that thing on the guys outside!!!"

Use it on the guys outside.
Use it on the guys outside.
Use it on the guys outside.

Morgaine blinked as the words registered in her mind. Man. She really needed something that was slightly stronger than a death stick right now.

Yet with a shrug and the lightest of footsies a duggie had ever shown in recalled history, she decided to follow the orders she was given, and marched ouside, turning her lightsaber off.

"PEWW PEWW PEWW!"
she screamed as she made her hilt shake in the general direction of over there. "PEWWPEWW!!!"

Maybe watched aghast for a moment, trying to figure out what the heck she was doing. Either way, there'd be a split second confusion before the guards inevitably shot her, but that was all Maybe needed for the tried and true Maybe technique of...

...running like heck!

Maybe dashed off past the crowd while they were distracted by Morgaine's insanity, running as fast as she could.

Which unfortunately, for Maybe, wasn't very...

It wasn't until Morgaine's air-blaster's thingie went empty. Her last peww sounded more like a deflated balloon, and she gazed into the abyss that were the hallway of the starship, and it stared right back at her. Whatever or whoever it was supposed that were meant to show up, they never actually did.

"Bah, hambug," Morgie growled as she placed the hilt back in her belt, and turned around in time to see the back of the whore.

Why did she show up anyway? There had to be a reason. No one showed up just randomly like that unless they-

OYE!

How stupid she'd been!

D'UH!

"HEY WHORE WAIT UP" Morgaine screamed at the top of her lungs as she darted after the brunette, "WHERE'S PATRICK!!!!12"

Maybe was running as fast as she could, but she wasn't as fast on her feet as Morgaine, and apparently the screaming redhead caught up with her. For a moment, Maybe was confused, but suddenly in one quick moment, she grabbed Morgaine and pulled her in to another one of the side rooms.

"Wait! Wait!" She said, before holding up a hand, hunched over, hands on her knees panting. She had to caught her breath first. "Did you say Patrick?" She asked, which might have come as a surprise. "As in Patrick Mallory?" She repeated, giving Morgaine a curious look. "I'm here for the bounty on his head! I thought it'd be easy, y'know? Just show up, point a blaster at him, job done! Except all these other hunters showed up, they're trying to stop me, and think I know where he is!" She exclaimed.

"Which wouldn't be a problem if you hadn't broken my blaster!" She added moodily.
