OOC: was approved in April. But you know how RL can get.
The two teenagers Nessarose had chosen for her purpose were advancing remarkably well. It was several months ago that she'd given the two a lab-shack of their own, along with books on how technology actually worked. The two, a boy and a girl, had begun with creating the simplest of things; wind turbines and toy car engines. They had grasped how running water worked and improved the pipe system on Endelaan within a month of dedicated work and a lot of research. While lacking the Force, they were hungry for knowledge, and their hungered could easily rival some of the greatest Sith powers Nessarose had known.

And that was months ago.

They moved on to bigger things. The two had accompanied Raz to the ships a few times, taken in the built of the engines, fixing the occasional leak or two under her watchful eye. Later on they had entirely disassembled a few comlinks and put one together from their parts, making the thing work better. Once, Nessarose had noticed, one of the younger children of Vashti came by to ask what they were doing, and during the conversation, asked for their name. "We are the Twins," they had replied, although a blood connection never existed. The bond between the two was made official a week later, and the girl was pregnant shortly thereafter.

But now was the time to take them a few steps forward. One of the spare shield generators was given to them for the purpose of studying. When Nessarose came by again, after her body was free of the birth, they reported that they could perhaps replicate it given the proper material, but lacking the permission to pull it apart, they could not give their words. And so another plan had been formed.

The Shiny drifted lazily through hyperspace as it made its way towards Dathomir. "Six shields," Nessarose said to the two, "just as we have for Endelaan. Your job will be to apprentice under Anna Sachae, and learn from her so that you can do so on your own in the future. When we are done here, we will travel to Ilum, and you will complete their creation and installation."

Dathomir Orbital Shipyards
Out of the many, many things that Anna had been asked to do in her life, one of the ones that she had the most difficulty with was teaching. Her talent with machines (and, apparently, the Force) was innate, not learned. She didn't think about how best to do something; she simply did it, and did it well. It was one of the things that had made her so indispensable to the Imperial Security Bureau R&D sector and, subsequently, KDY after her expulsion. No one could recreate the steps that she took because not a single one of them was logical.
Nessa wanted her to "teach" a pair of strangely Cavataio-ish incest twins how to do what she did. When the pair of them showed up at her private workshop (okay, it was more like a full branch of a ship devoted to her; Petra didn't skimp) at the Dathomiri drydocks, she just sighed and crossed her arms, trying to think of how this was going to work. They just stood there...creepy...like they were waiting for something that wasn't her. Eventually the silence was too much, and she decided to break it.
"Uh...hey there." They said nothing. "...um...I'm Anna. Who're you?"
"We are the Twins." Oh fucking Allya, Anna's blood ran ice cold when she heard that. Monotone. Perfect unison. They were like the psycho versions of her own girls.
"Er...right. So Nessa wants me to 'teach you'  how I do things. Or at least how to build a shield generator." They nodded. Perfect unison again, and Anna's blood threatened her with frostbite. "...yeeeah, okay. Well, we're going to have to do something completely unrelated to it first. Before I can teach you how to make a shield generator, I have to teach you how to create a machine." They still didn't say anything. Sweet Skywalkers that was creepy.
Fortunately, it didn't take her long to forget about them. She lead them over to a floating engine, pointing to a few gizmos and gadgets and mentioning things that might be wrong with them. After the technical blabber, she backed up and crossed her arms. "Now, this is the tricky part. I can't teach you how to build it with blueprints. Print is dead. Sterile and static. A machine is alive." Her gaze shifted to the engine hanging behind the kids. "It's a throbbing steel body with a pulsing electric heart, the oily blood pumping in its plastic veins. A blueprint might teach what it's supposed to look like, but unless you allow yourself to feel the machine, everything you do will be wrong."
They looked confused, and Anna just smiled. "What I'm going to teach you here isn't mechanics. I'm going to teach you communion. The Force works in all things, is present in all things." As she spoke, she walked up beneath the engine and ran her fingers over it. "An engineer is very much like a surgeon, or a healer. You don't have to manipulate the Force to understand its presence, or how it works in a living being like this magnificent work of art." Her touch tapered a bit, falling off as she walked away. "Don't just beat it with a wrench until it works. Feel it. Understand it. Heal its pain, rather than wrenching its flaws." The two of them looked even more lost and dazed...though, to Anna's glee, they at least seemed astounded by her mystic mumbo-jumbo.
And two hours later, they had managed to get that engine grinding, sputtering to life...running off only a blaster's power pack. It was hard for Anna to contain the pride swelling up within her.
---
Anna had spent several hours just watching the two of them work, using one of hers as a base. While they lacked any connection to the Force, presumably cutting them off from any ability to feel the spirit of the shield generator she had lent them, they worked together with a kind of unity that definitely made up for it. She found herself wincing at a few of the more brutal dissections she made to that single, base generator, but within an hour it was over and they seemed to understand how to create a copy.
She didn't have the heart to explain to them that a copy had an incomplete soul - only unique creations were complete.
As they had gone to work on creating their second shield copy, reinforcing just how to build it from the ground up, Anna went to her private office and hit the holocomm to Nessa. "Hey kiddo, you there? I think you should come see this."

It had been a good trip. Nessarose had used the few hours she'd had to go and visit her sister, seeing she and Lauda never really got to spend much time together, and even less so when there was no business involved. Her own twins were with her of course, little Brayden and Scheherezade, and Nessarose paused often enough to make sure children and mother alike were rested, fed, and happy.

When Anna's call came in, Nessa was just tucking her own twins into bed. Leaving a soft kiss on each of their little foreheads, she quietly closed the door behind her, leaving very specific instructions to the slave who accompanied them, and arrived at the workshop within minutes.

"Impressive," she said with a smile and a nod when she saw what the Twins had been doing. More than two would not fit into her ship, she knew. The rest would have to be built on Ilum itself. But the knowledge they had come for had been received, and Anna had done a marvelous job at instructing them. Grinning, Nessarose bent down and kissed her step-half-grand-mother-oh-mu-god-what-is-going-on-in-this-family-what-is-your-title-even on the cheek. "Thanks, Anna," she almost beamed, "you must be anxious to get back to Petra. I'll take the stuff and hop away. See you at Sithmas!"

Outside the snowy fortress the sounds of building equipment echoed out into the valley from where the droids were laying the power lines and foundation for one of the new shield generators. But inside the warm walls of the sith temple, the sounds of such industrious progress were barely noticeable, and were totally ignored by Domino as she knelt meditating in her chambers. Jaw locked in place, the tiny muscle flinches and spasms twitching over her body, the only outwardly signs of the internal sparring taking place in her mind as she pushed her martial abilities to their limits in her mind. Reliving both what did happen and what could have happened had she acted differently. "Whisper," she said with her eyes still closed. "Deactivate the shield and provide the Shiny with the local weather patterns when it drops out of hyperspace. Then inform the Queen that the twin's workshop is prepared for them as soon as they are ready." The computer beeped its acknowledgement seconds before the comm alert sounded. The long-range sensors had just plotted a small ship in the hyperlanes on an approach vector.

Smiling to herself, Domino let the base alert raise a few levels and waited for the defensive cannons to come online before she called them off and set the guns into lock-down with her personal codes. It wouldn't do for her to let the queen get shot down by an over-enthusiastic gunner before recognition codes could be exchanged after all. With this, the fortress is nearly complete. She mused as she readied the hot coco for the Queen's visit. It was rather nice to see the physical evidence that Ilum was becoming valued for more than just the crystals it produced.

It was a few days later that the Shiny was ready for departure, and Nessarose thought that day could not have come quick enough. Domino was doing a wonderful job with Ilum, of course, but she just loathed the coldness of the planet. Snow everywhere the eye could see, occasionally blotched by a touch of red from dead beasts, did not make her happy. She wanted sunshine, and greenery, and lakes, and pretty stuff.

The only thing that truly worried her was the fact that unlike other planets her kingdom had, this one was relatively known. Yet in all this time, there hadn't been a single true invasion, not even an accidental Jedi. Had the rest of the planet forgotten that this place ever existed? At other times in her life, that might have been something she'd have taken as a sign that things were going her way. But she wasn't sixteen anymore. And while a lot of people mocked her young age and claimed she lacked experience because of it, Nessarose deWinter knew deep down that this quietness had nothing good about it.

Anyway. Chocolate milk, some talks with her Warden, and the Twins were set. The protection around Ilum was final and set.

Now all the Sanguine Potestatem had to do was wait for someone to be stupid enough already to test it out.
