Within (TSP)
« on: 10/10/15 05:20:35 »
Quite the contrasting sight. A circle of Endelaan's tribal warriors, men and women and all dark of skin, surrounded a lone pale figure as he strutted in the middle. Epidermal observations aside, where the warriors wore scraps and loin cloths, marked by statues and decorated with piercings, this slim gentleman who appraised his audience wore fine white silks, skin so clean he would sparkle in the sunlight, and had an unearthly gaze. The ring around his iris was electric, and extra pupils that would orbit across the sclera. No one dared to make eye contact with this... creature? They were not cowed by sternness,  not fearful of dread, it was just kind of creepy, really. Which one would you even look at? The man smiled at the warriors' unease.

"Chr'ket? Baork? Guikam? Kreeeekekekeke? Testing? Oh my, there it is."  Anon stuttered. Sometimes it was difficult to keep track of over six million laguages. "Your pupils are dilating in response, so I imagine you are able to understand me yes?" The resident technophile of the Potestatem approached one of the larger men, raising his fists in a faux boxing stance. "Now now, don't be so tense." He quickly brought his hands to his mouth in a gasp. "It's because I am white, isn't it?" The ebon warrior cocked an eyebrow, then searched for a signal from one of his comrades. Anon simply tittered as he retreated to the center of the circle, hands still over his mouth while he looked over his fingers with mischief.

"Yes yes. Why are you here? I am sure it has crossed your simple minds." There was a grumbling from the crowd but Anon Nona showed know sign of even knowing of the slight insult. "What makes you all special? To be frank, nothing really. None of you are from the main clan branches, certainly adequate warriors and hunters, but nothing to be praised by the Queen or anything." Even the mention at the matriarchal title caused these warriors to shrink back. "Oh, she's not so terrible. Sure she can be a cranky bitch who may flay your flesh with a glance, but who wants to live forever?" They acted as if their ears were being flayed. Anon smiled, glancing at all their reactions. Then, coyly, he raised on of his slim, pale arms into the air. "I do."

Anon could see their anger. Their bloodlines may be far from the Forbidden Palace, but the woman who claimed to be the Queen of all Endelaan had taken it with her own hand and earned the respect she deserved in the eyes of the ancestors. Nessarose deWinter was sacred, and this silver dandy mocked her so informally.

"Well, you all have pointy sticks, don't you?" Anon questioned, undoing the tie at the top of his robes. "Your Queen would repay you to respond to such sacrilege appropriately, would she not?" The silk slid over a pale shoulders as Anon revealed the tender flesh. He sparkled in the sun. "Surely she would pay respects for you to punish such a naughty man." Robes slid to the ground revealing Anon's naked body. Streaks of light would race across skin like a shooting star in the sky. The warriors were stricken with revulsion as they saw Anon's unnatural form. Hung like a Ken doll, whatever that meant.

Swiftly a savage spear splattered silver on sickened spectators. "Say that ten times fast." Anon groaned as the large warrior impaled white flesh with his weapon. Fury blazed in his eyes. Anon simply smiled weakly as if appraising a dumb but lovable animal for making a doo doo on the carpet.

"You spit on our heritage!" The ebon warrior bellowed. "Will crows even eat your corpse?" The contrast in size between the two men could never be fully appreciated until the Endelaan warrior lifted Anon by the throat, spear still skewered through the gut.

"Oh, I am sure they would. I taste like birthday cake and cream." Anon's voice was weak as his windpipe was slowly being crushed, be he barely acted like he was being strangled. Superstition and fury ran through his comrades as a smaller man and a woman lunged forward and drove spears up into Anon's rib cage.

"Come on now, this is a group activity." Alien eyes looked to the circle of hunters invitingly. "Maybe if you hit me with a stick, sweets will come out."

Forbidden Temple

Diomedes sheathed the alchemical, dark blue-bladed sword as bright silver-green eyes turned to regard a door at the far northern end of the training room.  Breathing in deep, steady breathes to quickly return his slightly elevated heart-rate to normal, the King of Endelaan rested his left hand casually on the small of his back before motioning the door open with his right.

Immediately, the athletic form of Captain D'ravin was revealed.  Per usual, the Endelaan native wore traditional warrior garb.  The only thing that identified him as one of Diomedes' and thus Endelaan's most elite warriors was the flowing dark blue cloak he wore over the top of his armor.  D'ravin approached within ten feet of Diomedes before dropping to a knee and bowing his head.

"Captain.  I trust this is of relative importance if you saw fit to disturb my training."

"Apologies, Your Majesty.  I received word from the Sorceresses.  A disturbance in the energy of Endelaan has rippled through their minds.  Hostility and anger increasing at a steady rate."

Diomedes arched a curious eyebrow.  The practice of competition and the culture of the strong rising on the shoulders of the weak was...not new.  However, Diomedes knew the Captain well enough to understand it would not be coming to his attention in any right if it was...out of the ordinary.  "The Clans?"

D'ravin shook his head slightly.  "No, Your Majesty.  The others."

The Sith Lord motioned for D'ravin to rise.  "They must be on someone's land.  Inform the responsible Clan to investigate and deal with the situation in accordance with the laws of Endelaan."  Laws which, in truth, were rather simple.  If it did not harm the Potestatem, it was generally permissible to some degree.  This was mostly a reality because many minor problems like theft and murder that so many governments had...did not exist to such a great deal on Endelaan.  Death in the execution of a challenge or training was acceptable, understandable.  Senseless death, however, most certainly did harm the Potestatem.

D'ravin stood and bowed his head one more time.  "As you command."  The Captain turned and quickly retreated.

Diomedes watched the man disappear before moving to clean up the items he'd used for training - insisting that no servant exist for the purpose of cleaning up behind him or the twins.  In fact, precious few entered the Temple that were not part of what could be loosely called the inner circle of either himself or his mate.  Once he was done, Diomedes departed the training room for his favorite activity of the day, waking his two young children.

Too many disturbances on Endelaan. This did not please the woman. She had not been the Queen's Raven for too long, nor could anyone say she had been the popular choice. Her Clan of birth marked her heritage upon the planet all too well, her face half eaten by a disease that could have easily been treated had she been born anywhere else. A price she had paid with her very sight. There were many emotions the woman was accustomed to sensing, and many of them far from pleasant. Yet few times had she sensed what so acutely hit her now, and the unloved woman's interest came to be.

It had not taken her too long to travel to the source of the mess, the heavy staff in her hand more for pose than of actual need. After all, she knew everyone who was there, even if not personally. Their presence spoke loudly, and she saw them for who they were, her lips pressed, turning her mouth into a thing line.

She had little love for the Outsiders that seem to multiply in numbers faster than Endelaan could breed its cattle. The King and Queen, as well as their offspring, were most of those she approved of. The rest of the lot though... Secrecy and discretion had helped Endelaan survive through times wickeder than this. And these people, these strangers, these... Unclean.

The usual silence spread as the others noticed her arrival, her eyeless face aimed directly at the stranger who claimed to be made of sweets.

"To hit him with a stick would be to hit the air with a stick," Verberri spoke. Her voice was deep, without a drop of friendliness attached to it, slow, making sure every syllabel hit exactly where it was meant to, "to refer to him, is to refer to nothing. To give into this man's provocations is to undo what makes you part of Endelaan. Go home to your wives and husbands, go home and be part of the land. Let this man return to the nothingness from which he came."

Sipping from her mug of dark chocolate, Nessarose sifted through the datapads that lay in front of her. She still had some time to look things over, make sure the construction of Endelaan city was going forward as planned... And make some changes. Slowly, the buildings were rising around the Forbidden Temple, foundations already being covered. If no delays happened, the city would be ready to hold the vast majority of those who had signed up to live there, many of whom descending directly from Clan Vashti. Houses for other Clans were being built as well, and...

Her little project's children potentially too. Breeding cows, she'd called the women she had snatched during one of the Sanguine Potestatem's violent takeovers. They served but one purpose, which was to make children for Endelaan. The local population could only breed at a certain rate, and with more than ample time to play around with the Force on those women's bellies, she was certain she was close to weeding out all non-Endelaanian DNA out of them. Tricky. Hard. Energy draining.

Leaning back in the library's grand sofa, she stared at the ceiling for a moment. Or at least, she tried to, when the sorceress' screams threatened to tear through her mind. She rolled her eyes, blocking the distracting sound out as she reached forward, looking through the images they themselves saw, and sensed Verberri, her Raven, make her way towards the cause of disruption.

Sighing, the eighteen year old Queen gathered herself and rose, the happiest of smiles returning to her face. Whatever it was, it was being handled, and was not directly threatening in any way. She, had a morning date to crash.

Diomedes slipped quietly into a study adjacent to the master bedroom he occupied with his mate once he'd finished dressing.  The study had been converted into a decent sized nursery.  There were other rooms they could have put the children in, but they were, by design, nowhere near the master suite.  Keeping the twins nearby but not in the master at least afforded the twenty-one and eighteen year old some privacy.

A long, flowing robe covered Diomedes body and dragged lightly across the ground as he approached one of the cribs.  Scheherazade was still sleeping soundly and Diomedes allowed himself to simply watch her in silence for a number of moments.  Eventually, his silver-green gaze shifted to that of his son, Brayden.  Per the norm, the child began to stir and slowly awake when Diomedes came near.  Gently, Diomedes traced a finger from his son's nose to his belly button.  "Hey big guy."  The smile that Brayden greeted Diomedes with always melted the Sith Lord's heart.

"Oh come now, he wasn't lieing." The words did not come from Anon Nona. Rather, one of the smaller hunters stepped forward using his spear like a walking stick. Prior to the Raven's arrival, he had the look of disgust and loathing aimed at the pitiful creature being strangled. Now, with the fun police putting an end to the lesson, the boy's eyes sparkled with mischief and lips puffed in the vain attempt to pout. The other warriors were at a loss, already prepared to leave as the largest slowly lowered the body to the ground. Curiosity kept them as the wee warrior  approached Nona's bleeding body without a hint of hesitation. Gingerly sinking one of his tanned hands into a wound, the hunter fished around the chest cavity in search of something.

"Ooh! Stop that!" Anon giggled, weakly squirming as the boy was now up to the elbow in glittery gore. "Your hands are cold!"

The hunter playfully tapped Anon on the forehead. "Playtime is over. We have a party pooper."

Anon pouted in response, looking now to the Queen's pet. His occular receptors shifted in their sockets.

With a SHLURP the hunter pulled out a lump that looked like an organ, or a sac of some sort. The spectators were mortified. Some ran, heeding the Raven's command. A few others expelled their previous meal while looking away. The largest had lost all senses and simply collapsed to the hard ground. Confused, the smallest and remaining hunter opened the bag and and popped a pink orb into his mouth. His eyes fluttered as the shock of flavor washed through his senses. Losing some of the needed concentration to conceal his true nature, the boy's bare skin began to sparkle in the sunlight with thin streaks of like racing along his toned muscle.

"Ohh.... ah." Anon moaned, his voice coming from the youth's body, though a few octaves higher than normal. "I better hide these. Little Nessa might take them." Mini-Anon then side-glanced to the last to leave the spectacle; the Queen's Raven. "Scarface can't have any. You're mean."

The sound of bare feet against the cold stones of the Forbidden Temple were barely audible, though she made little effort to hide them. A long stick was in her left hand as the right one plucked pieces of cotton candy off it, the sweetness melting on her tongue. Though halls and rooms she moved, following the three thick pulses she could feel through the Force, three presences she would never lose again.

The sight that greeted her was her other half, bending over their sun. She grinned from ear to ear, enjoying the view as she resumed to nom on her sweets. It was a mere few seconds before there was no more cotton candy left, and Nessarose tossed the stick behind her as she made her way towards the three. Diomedes' scent filled her nostrils and she leaned against him, her hair falling down as she grinned at their little boy.

Though Diomedes felt Nessarose's approach from quite a distance, he kept his attention focused on his son.  By the time Nessa had entered the room, their daughter began to stir quietly as well.  Once the mother of his children had come to a stop by his side, Diomedes slowly turned to flash her a brief smile before kissing her softly on her temple.

Scooping Brayden into his arms, he turned and proceeded towards the changing table to give his son a fresh diaper.  "I imagine you heard about the minor disruption among the clanless?"  It wasn't really that Diomedes cared too much.  Fortunately, their civilization had carried in much the same manner as it always had even with the somewhat recent disruption of the holonet.  Sure, it made their external intelligence efforts beyond difficult, but he had been working on a plan to place a couple agents in key areas of the galaxy.  Unfortunately...it mostly meant they would only return to Endelaan to report if something drastic was indeed happening.

Their lack of true reliance on technology amongst the Potestatem was proving to be quite beneficial.

Verberri stood still as a statue as the little exchange took place, but her mind took in the presence of the young hunter, memorizing every detail of it. She would not raise her power to strike against another of her people, not while her people were still themselves. Despite the arrangements of the Queen, that would soon come to a stop.

Once the last of the people had scattered, her eyeless face stared directly at the stranger.

"The Queen and King shall hear of this," she said with a neutral voice, "the aide you offered our Queen does not give you the freedom to do... this."

"Verberri is dealing with it," Nessa answered with a shrug, taking in the last of Diomedes' scent before he turned to take care of their son. Scooping Zade into her own arms, she turned around and sat herself down on the rocking chair.

Lowering the upper part of her tank top, she held Zade close to her. "Someone is probably just bored. It's been a while since we've taken anyone on a grand adventure."

Diomedes replied to Nessa as he finished changing Brayden.  "Well.  The current reality of the galaxy certainly presents enough opportunities to rectify that."  Once he'd finished with his son, Diomedes tossed the child into the air a couple times, much to Brayden's delight, before settling into a seat himself.  For the time being, the infant boy seemed content, but Diomedes knew well enough his son would start getting cranky to be fed in short enough time.

"Things on Endelaan, naturally, are well enough along that our permanent presence here is not really required.  While the happenings of the greater galaxy may not be of immediate concern to us, it would do well to stay...abreast of said happenings."  Their society was one that centered around the spreading of strength and the fostering of closely held ideals.  The population of the Potestatem was not an issue currently, but it would be an incredible understatement to say the natives had a tendency to...breed like rabbits.  There were clearly certain things that hadn't changed since the days of the Infinite Darkness.

"Yes!" Nessarose almost screamed, lowering her voice again the moment she realized the babies were threatening to react to it, "I want to live in a ship again. And travel. And do things that don't immediately have to do with advancing Endelaan and building an empire and changing diapers."

Lowering her head, she gave Scheherazade a kiss on the temple. Nessarose had inherited her parents' uncanny love for her children. But she could hardly see herself being nothing but a mother. She was eighteen. She had a Galaxy to conquer. People to kill. Fun to have. And she wanted to do it all with Diomedes and their children by her side.

"Any clue where the worst warzone is at the moment?" she asked Dio, grinning from ear to ear.

The youth with candy snorted as he stifled laughter. While still sucking on sweets, the Anon on the ground's breath became raspy and ragged. He almost struggled to keep his head up to watch Verberri and his tinier self.

"Tell her the truth." Anon ordered from the ground, propping himself up on his elbows for stability. The glow was fading from his face and his fair skin was beginning to go dull. The Anon in disguise sighed as if a parent had told him to apologize to the dumb girl at school.

"Fine, alright. I was hate for Her Majesty to think I was up to something wicked." Mini-Noni turned to Verberri, a slight smear of disgust on his face. He popped another sweet into his mouth. "Congratulations, Sugar Plum, you get to see Anon die." As the Anon on the ground struggled to hide signs of his suffering, the Anon before the Queen's Raven was slowly becoming paler. He was looking less of a native of Endalaan and closer to maybe the son of Anon.

Diomedes could not help but chuckle at his mate's response.  Both of the children did indeed stir slightly, but they were quickly and easily calmed back down.  Brayden took a bit more coaxing as he...patiently waited for his turn to feed.  Patience, naturally, was a matter of perspective when it came to infants.

Closing his eyes for a moment, Diomedes imagined himself back on the bridge of a Star Destroyer...the days when he still worked for his father.  Though he ultimately hated being controlled by Cameron Centurion, the young Sith did enjoy the thrill of combat and the mental challenge of manipulating his environment to his means.  The nature of the Warrior ran strong in his blood...generations of breeding hadn't diluted its potency.

"Not off the top of my head.  However, I think it's safe to assume that...those areas formerly the focal point of the galaxy are likely experiencing the most tension.  Places like Coruscant, Corellia, Nar Shaddaa even...plenty of people that would love to attempt seizing control."

Coruscant, Corellia, Nar Shaddaa... Nessarose's body tingled with excitement. She rose from her seat and walked over to Dio, exchanging the babies they were holding before seating herself back down.

"Adam is probably on Corellia and Morgie on Nar Shaddaa," she said, giving words to the thoughts that ran through her head. There was nothing for her to hide; there was one person in the Galaxy she trusted with her life, whatever time tried to throw against them, and with that trust came an extra layer of trust on what her Godfather had more than once described as verbal diarrhea, "I'd like not to... Not to meet any of them right now. Adam's broken contact since I refused to bring to Endelaan to kill my mother and Elora, and Morgie is... Well. She takes up more energy than I want to give her right now. And she may try to give the kids giggledust. You know she actually did once do that to a couple of babies? Daddie was so embarrassed over it that he actually paid people to keep them quiet instead of just quieting them down."

Nessarose paused a moment to kiss Brayden's forehead. No, much as she loved her older sister, she was not going to meet her new niece and nephew before they were old enough to give the redhead a decent Force Push. And Adam... That was a relationship destroyed that Nessarose didn't want to linger on for the moment.

"The thing about Coruscant though," she resumed, her voice as perky as ever, "is that there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and it's possible to avoid everyone else who might be there too, so let's go to Coruscant! Did the place ever recover from what Cameron did to it?"

Diomedes arched a curious eyebrow as he listened to Nessarose's response.  They dynamic in her family had always been something that he likely would never truly understand.  He'd been raised a single child, so there certainly weren't any siblings to have any level of conflict.

However, the expression quickly subsided as familiarity set in, watching Nessarose give voice to all of the thoughts in her head.  When her retort ended in a question, Diomedes could only nod slightly.  "Ah yes.  Project Genesis..."  The young Sith Lord could not help but roll his eyes.  He, naturally, had his suspicions about who was really behind the degradation of the holonet and the ensuing nuclear war.  His father certainly delighted in playing with the lives of others for little more than amusement.

Oh rest assured!  He was always had some very beautiful, descriptive reasoning for his actions.  A reasoning that to the uninitiated almost seemed...prophetic.  Diomedes saw right through the illusion of Cameron Centurion time and again.  What floored him was that the galaxy hadn't actually called for his head after what he very publicly did to Coruscant.  "Last reports we received were prior to this whole thing with the holonet.  Now that reports have to happen in person...who knows what the status of Coruscant is after the nuclear war.  However, I digress, last report indicated some wealthy benefactor was taking steps to restore the planet to its former self.  Weather generators were still down and certain areas of the city still had a great deal of sentients carrying the virus."

Shrugging slightly, Diomedes smiled thinly.  "Sounds like it could be quite the adventure."

As her hands were mostly busy fussing with Brayden, Nessarose listened intently to what Dio had to say. Ever since arriving on Endelaan, most reports came in late, since it wasn't until recently they had means of communicating with the outside 'verse. And even that change had been brief, with all that's happened in the past several months. Whoever the wealthy benefactor was, she was sure that it was someone she knew, even if on a mere acquaintance level. Wealthy benefactors with the funds to pull such things off weren't sufficiently common, and thanks to her parents, it was likely she knew most if not all of them.

Of course, there was always the possibility that... Nevermind. She put that thought out of her head.

Using the Force to move her rocking chair towards Dio, she planted a sweet kiss on his cheek.

"Let's do it!" she grinned, "Like we used to. Leave the body guards and everyone here, and go off on our own."

Brayden signaled for her to pause, and she lifted him, her hands working on getting that burp out.

"Or at least just one person to watch the kids while we're on the ground."

Diomedes smiled at the kiss to his cheek.  As Nessarose finished up with Brayden, the young Warrior came to his feet and made his way to their daughter.  Though he was not particularly fond of the changing process, he'd learned through experience that Scheherazade was less likely to give him a face-full of urine.

Dio was only forced into a pause at Nessa's last statement.  "That all sounds great...except that one person better not be your Raven.  She's..."  Well truth be told Diomedes had no idea how to characterize the woman.  It was a shame, really, that Aeval had...necessitated a reason for replacement.  Just one more lovely gift from Cameron.  "I don't even know.  At any rate, I'll notify the Captain of our intent to depart so he can...keep things quiet."

The man did his job exceptionally well and Diomedes knew a sudden disappearance would make the man's job all the more difficult.  Likewise, a public announcement of them leaving to the people of Endelaan may well agitate some.  Besides, there was hardly a need to do so.
