It was Mark Hamill taking a question about comic books and turning it into an excuse to pontificate endlessly on his opinions concerning matters he knows nothing about.

I'm endlessly curious about why we, as a society, care what actors (and singers) think about politics. Usually, being intelligent is an impediment to being able to endlessly recite words that they didn't think of or write day in and day out. And yet somehow we think they all have something valuable to say about society and politics.

It's mostly because of how we, as a society, package celebrities. For some unfathomable reason, we find them interesting enough to care what they do in their daily lives. We have news crews stalk them until they forget what privacy is. We ask for their opinion on each and every little thing, whether or not we realize that they have no effin' clue what they're talking about.

We care what they say about politics, a matter on which they have no real expertise (as a rule, not as a whole), because we give them authority by asking them what they think about it in the first place.

But then, it's a falsehood to say that literally every actor and singer, by merit of being an actor or singer, is completely politically blind. Several of them are very politically active and have both informed and cultured opinions about who is or isn't a good idea to lead in X political field. The issue is that those celebrities are in the distinct minority.

Love it when people don't know what acting is about

(hint: there's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more to it than memorizing lines)

Not necessarily. Your generalizing to that effect is no better than my generalizing to the other. Hypocrisy is not a good shade on you.

I'm talking about the kind of acting you were. The one that is not done by schoolchildren on school stages or dubbed by Paris Hilton

Mark Hamill is not Meryl fucking Streep. Anyone smart enough to be the same level of acting you are talking about--more than just memorizing lines--is also smart enough not to pretend to be a Wilsonian statesman.

On an unrelated note.

How much does Mark Hamill look like a deadbeat dad?

Very much so.

Just my two cents: I believe acting to be the lowest of the five art forms (music, dance, theater, art, and literature).  By "lowest" I mean the one that requires the least amount of time, skill, and dedication to master.

Someone once said, if Shirley Temple could do it with relative competence at age five, the proof is in the pudding.

And as certain very highly paid actors and actresses prove...you don't even have to be very good at it if you look pretty or come from the right demographic.

And yeah, Mark Hamill is looking kinda...puffy.

Shirley Temple was also a dancer and she sang as well.

Both not nearly as well as she acted, though.
